Kathy
has been teaching adults and children for over 20 years. She started at Yorktown Ballet School. She also taught classes at the Somers
Ballet School. She conducted
the adult ballet program at the Ballet Arts Studio in Beacon. She continues teaching both adults and children at Willow Dance Center
and Barefoot Dance Center
in the Hudson Valley.
She’s a frequent substitute at Broadway Dance
Center in New York City.
Kathy
saw a need for a dance school dedicated to adults. Frustrated by adult classes which lacked a progression of levels (from
beginners to experienced) or were combined with teens, she started Willow
Dance Center: a studio for adult
dancers in 2004. The studio has grown tremendously since it opened with many repeat students, making for a friendly environment.
She has become recognized for her adeptness at adult instruction. In 2008, she added a beginning jazz class.
Kathy began her formal ballet training with Marcia Dale Weary and Karen Bohner at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet.
She then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia
where she studied with Major Burchfield (ballet, modern and jazz) and Colin Worth. She performed with the Virginia Beach Ballet. Kathy relocated to New York City where she studied with Douglas Wassel at the David Howard Studio and continued her jazz training at JoJo’s Dance Factory. At this time
she performed with the liturgical company Avodah. When she moved to upstate New York
she continued her ballet training with Rose Marie Menes at the Yorktown Ballet School and danced with the Potpourri
Dancers. After moving to Beacon, Kathy studied ballet and jazz with Valerie Feit at the Ballet Arts Studio. Kathy
also continued her jazz training with Andrea Brown. Currently she studies with Dawn Hillen at the Broadway
Dance Center in New York City.
